Bake for Hope

bake for hope 2010

My friend, Erin, volunteered to be an organizer for  Bake for Hope, a nation-wide bake sale that is completely powered by volunteers.  All proceeds are donated to the Susan G. Komen for the cure affiliates.  Erin is a loving wife, caring mother and daughter  who has been touched by breast cancer.   Breast cancer research is something very dear to her as it is to many people.  When she asked me to be to be a part of her bake sale – there was no way I was going to pass.

I returned from my two week hiatus in Tokyo, Kyoto and Shanghai the day before the bake sale.  I thought for sure I was going to be able to bake something that night and drop them off the morning of the sale.  I was totally over ambitious and crashed.  I woke up the morning of and whipped up some Salted Caramel Chocolate Bars to take over to the sale.  I didn’t have time to let them cool completely so the bars were a bit on the gooey side, which made it a little difficult for packaging.   I thought they still turned out bake sale worthy though.  People like treats that are fresh out of the oven right?

Can you tell I got these cello bags from Japan? The sakura design was just too cute!

Erin had a very successful bake sale and raised over $1,000 to donate towards breast cancer research.  I am so proud to be her friend and to be a small part of finding a cure.   I look forward to participating and supporting Erin again in the years to come.   Job well done Erin!

Check out some of the other goodies that Erin and her friends baked for the sale!  YUM!

Here we are - love the aprons! She was lucky enough to have some of the supplies donated to her for the sale.

I’m so happy that something that I enjoy doing, such as baking can help impact the community…even if it’s in a small way.  If we all did a little something to help make this a better place wouldn’t that add up to something great?  I will be participating in the Eat My Blog Charity Bake Sale on June 19th (10am-4pm) at Tender Greens in West Hollywood.  If you are in the LA area please come out and support us.  This is a bake sale organized by two food bloggers, Cathy Danh of Gastronomy and Laurie Moore of G-Ma’s Bakery, benefiting the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.  All of the baked goods are donated by local food bloggers…hence, Eat My Blog!  Check out the website for more details and a complete list of the bloggers participating.  Hope to see you in June!
