I made chocolate pancakes for some special loved ones on Valentine’s Day: my little sister and two younger brothers. They love chocolate and sweets in general. I whipped these up with the help of a boxed pancake mix for their breakfast, while my husband made me a different breakfast.
Tip: Once you see little bubbles and steam rising on the batter, it’s time to flip.
Makes about 8 “normal” size pancakes.
Taste great by itself, but my audience likes it topped with powder sugar, additional chocolate chips, syrup and whip cream.
Enjoy!

I make have made theses three times now and they have been such a hit with the family kids. Thanks for the great ideas.
Tiffany – that brings a smile to my face! I’m glad that these simple chocolate pancakes were a hit with the family kids! YAY!
Ah, the wonders of Google! I’ve been searching like crazy, trying to find a chocolate pancake recipe using pancake mix (it’s impossible). So thank you for this!
Abigail: I’m so glad that you found the recipe! Hope you guys enjoy! Take care!
It is a Sunday morning and my children spent the night with their grandma. On this rare occasion of a “free morning”, I was craving chocolate chip pancakes from IHOP but did not want to get out of my PJ’s. This recipe was just the thing I needed – thanks so much 🙂
I am sure they will also be hit with my daughter and her friends next time she has a sleepover!
Hi Amy Kay! I’m glad this recipe helped out on a relaxing Sunday morning! I’m sure your daughter and her friends will love it! Chocolate + pancakes are an instant hit! Take care!
I’m looking forward to making these! Krusteaz is my favorite pancake mix but hadn’t figured out how to make chocolate pancakes on my own, so thanks! I’m going to try adding fruit instead of the chocolate chips or adding orange juice instead of water to make chocolate orange pancakes.
This recipe turned out perfectly, tasted DeLiCiOuS, and is so much easier than cookies or brownies! I now have a new go-to when I need a chocolate fix. Thank you!
Thank you for this recipe! My 4 year old loved it and told me I was the best cook in the world!!
Jean: I’m so glad that they turned out perfect! Love your creative twist to the recipe.
Randi: Yay!! What a compliment!
Do you have to use Krusteaz? Or does bisquik work just as well?
Hi Julia, I haven’t tried the recipe with Bisquik but I think it should still work. Follow the directions on the package and add the additional ingredients. Good luck and keep us posted! Take care!
I used bisquik and just put in all the stuff the pancake recipe said on the box plus everything on this list…. It tasted like a million dollars. 😀 It works with bisquik as well as Krusteaz.
Thanks for this recipe. It’s simple and it’s delicious
So delicious and full of flavor! I used dilettante mint chocolate instead of chocolate chips. And spread with marionberry jam, these pancakes tasted like Christmas! Will definitely be making these for the family on Christmas morning:)
