Taylor Thursday – 2nd Annual Food Blogger Bake Sale

Great American Bake Sale 2011

Don't let those pretty brown eyes fool you...this curious pup is a sneaky little girl! If left to her own devices she would eat everything in that box!

Last Saturday was the Second Annual LA Food Bloggers Bake Sale benefiting Share Our Strength, an organization that helps fight against childhood hunger in America.  Did you know that nearly 1 out of every 4 children are at risk of hunger? That’s pretty shocking if you ask me.  So if a little butter and sugar can help nourish a child and help them succeed — then I’m all for it!  Gaby of What’s Gaby Cooking? organized and ran a very successful bake sale with over 50 food bloggers, celebrity chefs, and pastry chefs contributing to the cause.   A huge thanks to all of the people that came out to BLD to support our cause – with your help we were able to raise over  $2,300!  The funds will go back to our local community to help stamp out childhood hunger.

great american bake sale - bloggers

It was so much fun hanging out with fellow food bloggers! Everyone is so talented and it was such a treat to try their kitchen creations!

In the bottom right hand corner in the picture collage above is Josie (of Daydreamer Desserts) and me and pictured below is her Pumpkin Onion Cheesecake, a creative and edgy dessert that she donated to the bake sale!  At first I didn’t know what to think of the combination of pumpkin and onions in a cheesecake.  Hmmmm… it might work, but since Josie made it – I had no doubt in my mind that it was going to be fabulous!   Look at the pictures below.  It was originally supposed to be a shot of the slice of cheesecake and then a slice of cheesecake with ONE bite eaten out of it. Well, I couldn’t stop at just one bite.  It was so delicious that I couldn’t help myself.  So now the picture is a half eaten slice of cheesecake… opps!

I know that pumpkin onion cheesecake might sound kinda out there – but trust me this combination is pleasantly delicious. It’s sweet and savory and the flavors go so well together!
With over 50 people contributing to the bake sale, we had some  leftovers after the sale.  Gaby suggested that we donate the remaining goodies to our local fire department.  What a wonderful idea!  Derrick and I loaded up a large box full of goodies and we were excited to bring it down to the local fire station.  As I’m taking photos of the box full of treats,  Taylor decides to do her own investigating.  I’m pretty sure it was the peanut butter cookies that drew her in.  Tsk-tsk Taylor… hence her pouty and guilty face in the picture above!

Derrick and I dropped off a huge box of goodies to our local fire station. They deserve to be showered with baked goods every now and then for the heroic acts that they do everyday. **Note — no treats were harmed by Taylor during this photo session**

Dogs – how are they suppose to pass up a treat?!
